Interesting. When I got pregnant with my third I got all kinds of negative feedback. "In my generation we used birth control!" "You have YOUR hands full!" When I was pregnant with my fourth I could actually see people counting (two in the stroller, one walking alongside.....and look at that belly!)and shock would register on their faces as they looked at my pregnant belly. Though I only have four children everytime we go out I hear comments. Part of it is that they are close in age, 7 and under, that makes it seem as though there are more of them. But I get all the comments that you would think would be reserved for families with many more kids. I think that today three kids is seen as a lot, though somewhat common. With four people seem to think you are downright crazy. Based on common perception I think it would make sense to let people define themselves as a large family. Because even smaller families now deal with the rude comments and stares. The world really seems designed for families with two (or less) kids.
